KidChatters recognizes that our users have legitimate concerns about privacy. This concern for privacy becomes even more important when the users are children under the age of 13 years. We support the guidelines and requirements of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) which became law on April 21, 2000. To learn more about this important Act by the U.S. Congress, click here. The following Privacy Policy Statement, which is part of our KidChatters Statement of Acceptable Use Policy, sets forth our practices regarding the collection and use of "personally identifiable" information as well as the choices we offer parents and children users regarding the use of this information. Kinds of Personal Information We Collect When We Collect The Personal Information What We Do With The Personal Information We Collect Reviewing and/or Terminating Personally Identifiable Information KidChatters Statement of Acceptable Use Policy Who We Are and How To Contact Us: In the process of submitting a registration application with our chat services, considerable personally identifiable information is collected from the parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) about themselves and the children in their family who will be participating in our chat services. The specific kinds of personally identifiable information collected from parent(s), and/or legal guardian(s) during the registration process is as follows:
When We Collect The Personal Information: It is during our three-step registration process that we collect personally identifiable information. The personally identifiable information we collect is collected for two reasons: 1) To confirm with reasonable certainty that it is the child user's parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) who are providing and consenting to the collection of all personally identifiable information collected; 2) To learn with reasonable certainty the true identity of the parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s), and child users participating in our chat services. The personally identifiable information collected during each step of the registration process includes the following:
Once the registration process is completed, we use "cookie" technology to track certain personally identifiable information each time a registered child user attempts to log on to a chat room. This information includes the URL and IP address that the child user just came from, the Child's registered User Name and Password, and type and version of web browser being used. The information collected by "cookie" technology is used to make the chat room log on procedure easier and to authenticate the child user for security purposes. "Cookies" are small pieces of information that are stored by a user's browser on the user's computer hard drive. Unless selected otherwise at login, the "cookies" we use are "session cookies," meaning that they are automatically deleted at the end of a session. A child user has the option of asking the KidChatters system to "remember" their session information when they log on to the chat room. By enabling the "cookies" technology to "remember them" whenever they log on to the chat room, the child user does not have to enter their User Name and Password every time they log on. If you would like to disable the "cookie" technology, you can usually do so one of two ways:
If you or your child user sends us personal correspondence, such as emails or letters, or if other users or third parties send us correspondence about your activities or postings on the site, we may collect such information into a file specific to you. What We Do With The Personal Information We Collect: For Administrative and Operations Purposes: We sometimes use email addresses and phone numbers to contact a child user's parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) regarding administrative matters. Among other things, we also use personally identifiable information for billing purposes; to personalize our service; to anticipate and resolve problems with our service; to investigate activity that may violate our user agreement (the KidChatters Statement of Acceptable Use); and to enhance the capabilities of our internal security systems. The child user and parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) contact information may be used to contact the child user and/or the child user's parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) when necessary for chat room disciplinary notices and reports. Among other things, these notices will include changes in KidChatters policies, chat room behavior reports, and disciplinary action notices. We also track the total number of visitors to our site in an aggregate form to allow us to update and improve our site, and tell other people something about the numbers of people who come to KidChatters Personally identifiable information is not extracted in this process. For Advertising, Promotional, and Marketing Purposes: We do not sell or rent any personally identifiable information about our child users, their parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) to any third party. We do, however, aggregate personally identifiable information (this means any one user is one of the bunch, no information is singled out) and disclose such information in aggregate to advertisers and for other marketing and promotional purposes. However, in these situations, we do not disclose to these entities any information that could be used to personally identify our child users, their parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s).
